Topic:  Antique and Austin Roses

Speaker:  Judy Eitzen

Antique, Heritage or Old Garden Roses are a favorite for their historical significance and beauty.  David Austin’s English Roses combine the look and fragrance of OGR’s with the flowering of modern roses.

Judy Eitzen is an Master Gardener and expert in Old Garden Roses and their modern counterpart, the Austins.  As an avid Historic Rose Garden volunteer at the Sacramento Old City Cemetery, she edits the newsletter, manages the website and maintains a photographic inventory of the roses along with conducting tours of the Rose Garden.

Lunch Reception for Alain Meilland

Owner of Meilland Roses in France

Hosted by Steve & Susie Jones

On April 29, 2015, we have the opportunity of a lifetime to meet with a special visitor, Alain Meilland, owner of Meilland Roses in France.  Alain is a sixth generation rose grower and his father, Francis, hybridized one of the best known roses in the world, Peace.  Meilland's roses are available through Star Roses, who regularly donates roses for our annual rose auction so many of you already have Alain's roses in your garden.  Alain is a respected rose advocate and pushes the envelope of roses, which many of his creations are the forerunners of other hybridizers' roses today, including those with good disease resistance.  Some of his best known series are Drift Roses, Romanticas, and Meidiland landscape roses.

So come to a special luncheon at the home of Steve and Susie Jones at 1130 am for a chance to visit with our special guest.  Food and drinks will be provided.  Please RSVP by April 22, 2015 to Susie at or call at 209.245.3355 so we can make sure we have plenty of food.
